Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) are two different types of ambulance services. ALS generally involves advanced clinical monitoring and/or intervention. All ALS events managed by a minimum of 1 Paramedic, while BLS can be handled by EMT’s.
ALS monitoring and/or Interventions includes, advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring, intravenous infusions, medication administration through various routes, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. BLS monitoring and/or intervention includes medical supervision, basic airway management, CPR & AED, limited medication administration, and first aid. The technicians in a BLS ambulance cannot perform any kind of surgery or medical treatments which requires the use of needles and other instruments that make cuts and cannot provide any kind of severe medicines, while on the other hand, the technicians in an ALS ambulance can perform any kind of surgery or medical treatments.
